A North Bloomfield man convicted of selling drugs that led to a fatal overdose has been sentenced.

Shawn Ray Smith, 35, was handed a 12-year prison term for selling drugs that led to the fatal overdose of an Ashtabula County mother.

The deadly overdose happened on February 5, 2016. Jennifer Knight passed away at home with her children and mother present, according to an affidavit.

In March, Smith pleaded guilty to eight charges including distribution of methamphetamine, fentanyl and cocaine, posession with intent to distribute heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine, and possession of a firearm.

Smith also had three guns on him at the time of his arrest despite not being allowed to have them because of a prior felony conviction.
