Three hospitalized from crashes that snarled traffic on I-80 in Mercer County
Three people were hospitalized after separate accidents that stopped traffic along Interstate 80 in Mercer County Tuesday night.
According to the Shenango Township Fire Chief, firefighters were called out at 6 p.m. for an accident along Interstate 80 five miles east of the state line where a truck hauling a camper went into the median, then rolled over into the westbound lanes.
A second crash was reported one mile east of the first accident.
Firefighters spent two hours on the highway, during which time all westbound traffic was stopped until debris could be removed.
A total of three patients were transported. One from the initial accident went to a local trauma center, according to the fire chief. Two victims from the second accident near the 6-mile marker went to a local hospital. All patients suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
