GIRARD, Ohio - The treasurer of the Girard Soccer League is suspected of embezzling thousands of dollars from the organization.
Valgene Erickson, 42, of McDonald, appeared in Girard Municipal court last week to answer one felony count of theft.
Two brothers who run the club told police last June about an overdraft in one of their accounts, as well as several checks written to Erickson and questionable expenditures at Amazon, Arby’s, Walmart, plus hotel, and gas station charges.
The brothers told police they were unable to get Erickson to explain the expenses, which at the time the report was filed amounted to more than $14,000.
Erickson is free on $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court again on September 27.
