SANDY LAKE TWP., Pa. - A Mercer County woman is free on $20,000 bond after being arrested for allegedly causing what police describe as “significant” bruising on a six-year-old boy’s neck.

Fifty-two-year-old Susan Schultz of Fredonia appeared before a District Magistrate Thursday, charged with endangering the welfare of children, assault, and harassment.

State Police say one of their officers was summoned to Oakview Elementary School in Sandy Lake Township Thursday afternoon by Mercer County Children and Youth Services.

A teacher told the officer that one of her six-year-old students told her that the night before, his grandmother placed tape on his neck and ripped it off because he was being a “bad boy”.

The officer says the student claims that his grandmother had wrapped the tape around his head and mouth. Police were also told that the grandmother was mad and threatened that she would tape the boy’s mouth shut if he didn’t stop talking.

Police later interviewed Schultz, who denied that she had placed tape over the boy’s mouth, claiming the boy did it himself.

The child’s mother later told police that the grandmother had taped the boy’s mouth shut but denied taping his neck.

Schultz is scheduled to appear for another court hearing on September 25.
