Norfolk Southern is preparing to break ground on a training center for first responders in East Palestine this week.

CEO Alan Shaw and East Palestine officials will break ground on the regional safety training center Thursday morning at 430 Park Avenue.

The center will train first responders from Ohio and Pennsylvania on how to respond to emergencies on railroad tracks.

The facility is part of the company's response to the toxic train derailment that happened in February.

Norfolk Southern announced plans to create the center on March 8.
