Farmers in Mahoning Valley report apple and pumpkin crop success
The crops and the shops are looking good this year at White House Fruit Farm and Molnar Farms. Debbie Pifer, owner of White House Fruit farm, said the recent rainfall and mild temperatures helped them produce tons of sweet and crunchy apples and healthy pumpkins.
"We had rain at the right time, we of course irrigate most of our crops. The weather has been kind of picture perfect, so we're in good shape," Pifer said.
Despite some initial challenges getting their pumpkin seeds to grow during bouts of dry weather conditions earlier this year, Rick Molnar says his pumpkins are plentiful.
"Once we got them out [of the ground] we started getting consistent rain flow. We had some really good temperatures and they just grew. We got some really good sized pumpkins," Molnar said.
Molnar said this crop is one of the bests they've had in a few years.
