If you have seen what looks like a string of white Christmas lights overhead at night in recent weeks, it’s not a UFO.

Viewers have sent Stormtracker 21 Chief Meteorologist Eric Wilhelm reports, pictures, and videos of Starlink low-level satellites in the night sky.

The aerial phenomenon is one of the many projects launched by SpaceX, a company operated by billionaire Elon Musk.

Starlink is the world's first and largest satellite constellation using a low Earth orbit to deliver broadband internet capable of supporting streaming, online gaming, video calls, and more.

According to SpaceX, most satellite internet services come from single geostationary satellites in a higher orbit than Starlink, resulting in a longer trip for the signal between the user and satellite.

However, Starlink uses a constellation of thousands of satellites that orbit much closer to Earth, reducing the transmission time.

Starlink satellites autonomously maneuver to avoid collisions with orbital debris and other spacecraft and use custom-built navigation sensors to survey the stars to determine each satellite’s location, altitude, and orientation, enabling precise placement.

The technology is available to the average consumer.  Much like DirectTV, the signal is received by an external antenna and comes with a WiFi router, cables, and base.

The Starlink app enables users to customize settings, receive updates, access Support, and see real-time performance data.
