WARREN, Ohio - A death row inmate convicted of the double murder of an elderly couple has died on Sunday according to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office.

According to a press release, 56-year-old Charles Lorraine died at the Ohio Corrections Medical Center around 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 24. No cause of death was given.

Lorraine was convicted in 1986 of stabbing and killing an elderly couple who lived on Warren's west side; 77-year-old Raymond Montgomery and his 80-year-old wife, Doris. Lorraine was 19 at the time of the murder.

According to Trumbull County Prosecutor, Dennis Watkins, Lorraine was a repeat offender as a juvenile and into his adulthood.

"He obtained a knife from a friend and he also wore gloves because in his words he 'didn't want to leave fingerprints or get blood on his hands,'" Watkins recalled.

Lorraine stabbed both victims to death and left the home with various valuables including cash, later meeting friends at a bar followed by stealing another woman's car to drive back to the scene to steal more money.

Lorraine was scheduled to be executed several times following his conviction and was slated to be executed in May of 2026.
