Poland - A local non-profit is making strides against fentanyl with a walk in remembrance of overdose deaths.

Donna McAuley started the non-profit A.M. WakeUpCall in honor of her daughter, Amanda McAuley, who passed away in April 2023 of a fentanyl overdose. Amanda was 27 when she passed away from street-laced fentanyl in her family home.

The mission of A.M.WakeUpCall is to educate children and their families about the dangers of this fentanyl use.

The non-profit will hold their first-ever fundraising walk-a-thon, A.M. WakeUpWalk, on Saturday, September 30.

The 5-mile walk begins at 10 am at Poland Seminary High School with parking available in the main lot.

Participants will receive a swag bag at check-in.

The route will have water stations along the way and will stop on Poland Village Blvd. where there will be a support wall for people to leave messages for Amanda and others who have died from overdose deaths. Participants will also walk to Amanda's burial site at Riverside Cemetery where the family invites participants to cut and lay flowers in remembrance.

Food Trucks will be available for purchase at the high school parking lot after the walk. There will also be various information booths about the battle against opioids.

For those who would like to participate but prefer a shorter distance, a shuttle service will be provided that will stop at each destination point to meet up with those walking.

You can register to walk by donating to the groups GiveButter wall or volunteering to help with the event here.
