Girard man accused of providing false documents to receive relief money for East Palestine derailment

A warrant has been issued for a Girard man after police say he had provided false documentation to receive relief funding for the East Palestine train derailment.
According to court records, the warrant for 26-year-old Benjamin White was filed in the Columbiana County Municipal Court on September 27. White is charged with theft by deception and falsification.
21 News has obtained a criminal complaint filed against White in this case alleging that between June 15 and July 24, he received a total of $16,092.76 from the Norfolk Southern Family Assistance Center.
A report was filed with the East Palestine Police Department on August 29.
According to the complaint, White produced fictitious hotel receipts and used a false address to make it appear as if he resided in East Palestine. Investigation revealed he never lived there and actually resided in Girard.
At this point, no court date has been set for White in this case.
