Lakeview coach says players chose to proceed with game as a way to grieve

Friday night's football game between Lakeview (PA) and Cambridge Springs began with a moment of silence, along with the American flag lowered to half staff. Lakeview head football coach Bill Hickman says while his Sailors played with heavy hearts, they chose to play as a way to help them start to grieve a horrific loss.
Whether he was ready to or not, on this night, Bill Hickman had to be both coach and confidant.
"It's been a rough 20 hours or so, you know?" he said.
A car crash late Thursday claimed the lives of Aliya Harvey and Harmony Leige, both 17, and 18 year old James Harrison.
Harrison once played for Hickman.
"Great kid," Hickman said of Harrison. "...was always the quiet one, never talked back, just was a good-valued young man. He was just a pleasure to be around."
And as the community comes together in mourning, Hickman says his players decided to come together and mourn the best way they knew how.
"I know my football players and even if I felt they weren't in the right frame of mind, even if they told me they wanted to play, I would've known."
In talking to Hickman along with several parents, we didn't hear of any memorials or vigils scheduled as of yet. If that changes, we'll let you know on air and online.
