McDonald teacher's aide charged with assault, child endangering of student
A 27-year-old Niles teacher's aide has been charged with assault and endangering a child in Niles Municipal Court on Thursday after an alleged incident involving a McDonald student.
According to the police report and court records, on September 26, McDonald police were called to the McDonald High School over an incident caught on video from the previous day that allegedly showed an incident of a student in a multiple disabilities classroom and the teacher's aide struggling in a hallway.
The police report states that the student appeared not to want to go upstairs to his classroom when, according to police, Bornemiss was reported to have multiple times attempted to lift the student under their armpits to carry the kid, and the child resisted.
The district's superintendent Kevin O'Connell, notified police and spoke with the superintendent of Trumbull County Educational Service Center.
According to the report, both the McDonald school district and TCESC agreed to remove Bornemiss from the classroom pending the outcome of the investigation.
The case was bound over to the Trumbull County bound jury with a $50,000 posted.
