MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio - Mahoning County Public Health (MCPH) has been awarded the Adolescent Health Resiliency Grant from the Ohio Department of Health (ODH).

According to MCPH Nursing & Community Health Division Director, Erica Horner, the overall aim of the adolescent health resiliency project is to equip adults who work with adolescents to be trauma-informed and to provide opportunities for a safe and supportive connection with trusted adults in the community.

Horner tells 21 News this is a "deliverables-based grant," meaning MCPH does the work up front, and if said work meets ODH's standard's MCPH will be reimbursed the amount awarded from the grant.

According to Horner, this is an $80,000 grant.

In the first year of the grant, MCPH's project coordinator will complete a trauma-informed care training required by ODH, as well as conduct a scan in Mahoning County to determine what trauma-informed work has already occurred, identify adults who engage with adolescents in the community and identify community agencies to partner with for the project.
