A Youngstown man was arrested on a warrant on Tuesday with charges of abduction and strangulation.

According to a police report from Youngstown Police, the charges stem from an incident on the morning of October 3 when police were dispatched to a home on Volney Road in reference to a fight.

Police spoke to the female victim who told officers that she often visits her boyfriend, identified as 36-year-old Ty Murphy at this residence, but does not live there.

The female victim told police that lately Murphy had been getting violent with her and that the night prior to the incident, she found out Murphy had been texting other girls, which lead to an argument.

Police say the argument turned physical when Murphy took the victim's phone and saw a text to her mother asking her for a ride home.

At this point, police say Murphy began choking the victim, but eventually let her go, at which point she called her mother. After this, police say Murphy again choked the victim this time swinging her around "like a rag doll."

Police say Murphy choked the woman a third time after this, with the entire fight lasting approximately 30 minutes. The victim told police she lost consciousness at one point during all this and "thought she was going to die."

According to police, the victim had four bruises, two on each arm and the victim told officers her head and neck hurt from the fight.

Police spoke to a witness who also lives in the residence, which police describe as a "safe haven for people on hard times." The witness told police he heard loud noises coming from the room throughout the night which sounded like fighting.

Police say while the residence acts as a "safe haven for people on hard times," it does not appear to have a business name.

Murphy was booked in the Mahoning County Jail on Tuesday, October 17, and court and jail records show he was arraigned released the same day.

Murphy is due back in court on October 27. In the meantime, he is ordered to have no contact with the victim.
