YOUNGSTOWN - The suspect who was indicted for the murder of a man in Downtown Youngstown has pleaded guilty to a less serious charge.

Johnny Serrano Jr., 24, was in the midst of a trial in Mahoning County Pleas Court, when he pleaded guilty on Thursday to involuntary manslaughter and a weapons charge.

The trial got underway earlier this week for the 24-year-old Youngstown man arrested for the September 18, 2022, shooting death of 32-year-old Yarnell Green Jr. in downtown Youngstown.

Responding to reports of gunfire near Federal and Hazel Street, officers say they saw a large crowd of people fleeing the area and Green lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. Green was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Serrano was indicted late last year on charges of aggravated murder, murder, involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault, and weapon violations.

A sentencing date will be announced later.
