77-year-old Sebring man arrested for feeding stray cats

A 77-year-old Sebring man has been arrested for feeding stray cats in the village.
According to the police report, Walter Comanitz was arrested on Thursday and charged with a nuisance violation of Sebring's Codified Ordinance.
Two business owners had filed written statements against Comanitz and his feeding of the cats on their property.
According to the written complaints, the village man allegedly walks around leaving foam bowls and cat food around the area, including behind the businesses. The business owners said that the cats were causing a nuisance by urinating and defecating on the business property and lying on their vehicles.
The arresting officer spotted Comanitz at the intersection of Ohio Avenue and N. 16th Street in the village around 2:45 pm Thursday and was found to have empty tuna cans, cups of dry cat food, and foam bowls.
According to the report, the cat-feeding suspect became agitated with the arresting officer, stating he was an attorney and he was going to get 'rich' out of the situation.
Comanitz was handcuffed and taken into custody. He was released on his own recognizance and appeared in Sebring Court Friday morning.
This is not the first time Comanitz has been arrested for feeding cats. In February, he was arrested on a littering charge for leaving plates and bowls that he fed the cats on and was ordered to pay a $20 court fine and $71 court costs.
Comanitz has a hearing scheduled to appear in Sebring Court on October 26 at 9 a.m.
