A main street closed since the fiery February 3rd train derailment in East Palestine is open again.

Norfolk Southern Railroad announced that regular traffic has resumed on East Taggart Street as major excavation and soil activities are nearing completion.

East Taggart, which is now open all day in both directions, allows traffic to resume traffic to and from Pennsylvania to resume.

Drivers may still experience periodic traffic stoppages – of about 15 minutes or more – during daytime working hours to allow for truck traffic entering or leaving the cleanup site.

Doyle's Fresh Meat & Deli General Manager Sharon Roethlisberger said they are ready to wait on all the customers they've missed for nine long months.

"The traffic along the road itself has just been tremendous like wow," Roethlisberger said,  "There's actually cars driving by constantly, not just trucks or workers."

East Palestine Liquor Stop already sees a promising uptick in customers, including familiar faces, many from across the state line who frequent this spot, are back.

"I mean we've gotten a lot more business in the morning than what what we've had in the past year," Manager Hope Figley said.

As traffic resumes, those who live and work in the village said they are grateful to see unity and support for the businesses.

"You just see a side of people that you don't think you would see until stuff like this does happen," Figley said.
