A Youngstown woman has been sentenced for the shooting death of a 13-year-old girl in Youngstown back in May of 2023.

A sentence of seven to nine years in prison was handed down Wednesday to twenty-nine-year-old Shamara Green, who pleaded guilty in September to one count of involuntary manslaughter and one count of discharge of a firearm near a prohibited premise.

The charges stem from an incident in May of 2023 when Green shot and killed 13-year-old London Jones of Youngstown in what police described as an "irresponsible gathering of adults" on the 400 Block of Carroll Street.

Police believe Jones was not Green's intended target, but don't know who the shot was meant for and that the incident is believed to have stemmed from an argument over social media.

When Green completes her sentence, she will be placed on probation for two to five years.
