MAHONING & SHENANGO VALLEYS - Local lawmakers have reacted to the selection of Mike Johnson as the next Speaker of the House.

Both Mahoning Valley Congressman, Bill Johnson and Shenango Valley Congressman, Mike Kelly issued statements Wednesday afternoon both in support of Mike Johnson being selected.

Bill Johnson released a statement congratulation the newly-elected Speaker stating that he's confident in Mike's ability to lead and unify the House moving forward.

"We've got a lot of work to do in the next few weeks and it's way past time to move beyond the petty complaints and personal vendettas of a few of our members and get back to the job the American people sent us here to do," Congressman Johnson said.

Congressman Johnson says the house needs to keep the government funded, address government spending and skyrocketing inflation and continue pushing to secure the southern border

In a tweet, Kelly also praised the selection of Mike Johnson stating that he's hoping to work with him to "make America energy independent once again."

"This is about America. It's time to unite and get back to work," Kelly's statement read.

Valley Congressman Dave Joyce also congratulated Johnson, saying its time to "get America back on track."
