Groups meet in Hubbard to assist family members of addicts

With a little warmth and a little prayer, the 15 people in a room at the Hubbard Public Library continued their mission of care.
Caring for those bearing one of life's heaviest burdens.
"In the city of Hubbard, a lot of families are in crises because somebody in the family is addicted to something," said David Garlich, who helps lead the CARE support group - or Community Awareness, Response and Education.
He talked about how addiction leads victims to love their high more than their own.
"There's a lot of help out there, but addicts seldom want help, just a few times in a moment of sanity," Garlich said. "Families are in crisis 24/7."
The CARE support group, along with Hubbard's city transformation team and the Mahoning County Law Enforcement Task Force, are here to help those families.
Austintown PD detective sergeant Robert Whited came to Thursday's meeting to talk about recent drug trends, what's being seen and seized on the streets.
He said while every family dealing with addiction is unique, they all have something in common.
"Frustration," he said. "Those commonalities are the struggle with the fact that these people are willing to sacrifice anything for the drug."
A sacrifice this small group is working to make sure doesn't mean sacrificing another life.
The groups meet every third Thursday of the month at 3:30pm at Hubbard Public Library, and every fourth Monday at 6:30pm at Red Door Ministries in Hubbard. You can also learn more on CARE's Facebook page
