An 18-year-old Austintown man, already in jail, has now been accused of murdering a man on Youngstown’s Southside last month.

According to police, one count of murder was filed against Darnell Jones for the September 11th shooting death of 21-year-old Ty’Lend Lewis along the 2000 block of Summer Street.

A family member had found Lewis, who died from his injuries before police and EMTs arrived.

Jones is currently in jail in Trumbull County on unrelated charges of receiving stolen property filed on September 29 in Warren Municipal Court and for obstructing official business in Common Pleas Court.

Jones was also in trouble in late September when he failed to appear for a sentencing hearing involving a case in Niles when police found and chased Jones. He was charged with theft stemming from an incident from late March of 2023 when officers saw him standing outside of a 2019 Kia Optima that was reported as stolen in Warren.
