The Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County will kick off a seven-week effort this week to help ensure that no one goes hungry during the holiday season.

The 6th annual Truck-full of Hope food drive officially begins Wednesday at noon at Deihl Chevrolet, located at 2705 E. State Street in Hermitage.

Mercer County residents, organizations, and businesses are being encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the Deihl Chevrolet showroom and help Fill-the-Truck through December 15th.

During last year’s drive, 1,979 pounds of food were collected along with a $1,750 check from the dealership.  All donations benefit local Mercer County families in need this holiday season.

"Since the beginning of the year, CFWMC has experienced a 73% increase in the number of people throughout Mercer County experiencing food insecurity, and we expect the lines for food assistance to continue to grow as we progress through the winter months," said Rebecca Page, executive director of Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County.

The food drive will accept all non-perishable food items (please no glass containers).  Most needed items include canned vegetables, canned meats, peanut butter, pasta and sauce, and cereal.

The Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County provides food to nearly 30 member agencies including faith- based food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and after school programs. In 2022, CFWMC distributed 1.2 million pounds of food to our neighbors facing food insecurity.
