A grand jury will decide if there is enough evidence to put an Austintown woman on trial for felony child endangering after authorities say her son died of a fentanyl overdose just days before his second birthday.

The case of Brianna Zagotti was bound over to the Mahoning County Grand jury during a hearing on Wednesday in County Court.

According to a police report, police and the coroner were called to Zagotti’s Compass West apartment on July 7 to investigate a call made about an unresponsive child.

The officer reports finding the parents administering CPR to the toddler on the bedroom floor.

Police, firefighters, and paramedics continued CPR until a doctor declared that the child, Amari Zagotti, did not survive.

Zagotti and the child’s father told police that there were no drugs in the apartment that the child could have encountered.

According to a criminal complaint issued last week, the child died from ingesting the powerful opiate fentanyl.

The Mahoning County Coroner found that the boy died from acute fentanyl intoxication, and ruled the death accidental.
