Mitigation hearing begins for possible death penalty of man found guilty of Warren murder

WARREN, Ohio - A mitigation hearing for a man who was found guilty of shooting a man to death and wounding his girlfriend on Palm Sunday in Warren has begun.
According to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office, the same jurors who found Kashaun Williams guilty of the crime are present in this hearing.
Williams's attorney is putting on mitigation that could outweigh the aggravating specifications that create the death penalty scenario, but the state still has burden to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the aggravated circumstances outweigh the mitigating circumstances.
Testimony at this hearing came from a psychologist from Mentor, Ohio who testified to mitigate that when Williams was young, he was improperly given antipsychotic drugs to counter his ADHD.
The psychologist further testified about his chronic marijuana usage and him growing up in a violent neighborhood.
During a cross-examination, the state pointed out Williams's "power" problems with women and his lack of abuse of alcohol or other drugs and the support he received from a loving family despite the death of his stepfather at age 16.
The jury will have four sentencing options for Williams: 25 years to life in prison, 30 years to life in prison, life in prison with no chance of parole or death.
