TRUMBULL COUNTY, OH - Law enforcement officers throughout Trumbull County have been receiving crisis intervention training sponsored by the Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board (TCMHRB) and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) throughout the month of November.

The training took place November 14-17, with one final day on Monday, November 20 which includes commencement exercises. This year's featured speaker is Vincent Peterson Sr., the Officer In Charge for the Supervision Program of the Trumbull County Adult Probation Department.

The commencement will take place at 1:00 p.m.

The program's goal is to improve the way law enforcement and the community respond to people experiencing mental health crises.

According to program coordinator John Myers, more than 300 officers from 32 jurisdictions have completed crisis intervention training in Trumbull County since 2006.

"During the five-day training, officers will learn about treatment and supportive services that are available locally for persons in crisis due to mental health or addiction issues. They also learn skills to help de-escalate these crises which they are very likely to encounter in the course of their daily work," Myers said.
