Crews from Ohio Edison were being dispatched at around 7 a.m. Tuesday to repair a fuse that cut power to hundreds of homes and businesses in Boardman and Youngstown.

Police dispatchers tell 21 News they received calls complaining that power was either out, or reduced, with reports of lights dimming in some areas.

As of 7 a.m., FirstEnergy's website showed 1,522 customers without power in Boardman, and 90 in Youngstown.

Most of the outages were around Southern Boulevard between Midlothian Boulevard and Indianola Road.

A FirstEnergy spokesperson blamed a faulty fuse and estimated power would be restored within an hour.

Robinwood Lane Elementary in Boardman is closed Tuesday as a result of the issue.

Alyssa Birch, graphic communications coordinator with the Boardman School District, said the outages caused an electrical issue in the building that produced some smoke, so the decision to close was made for the safety of the students.
