Others were Mary Shaker, center left, wife of Mitchell F. Shaker, secretary of the Trumbull County Democratic Party, and Mary Alice Timmins, wife of Dr. William J. Timmins, party chairman. The woman in the background was not identified.

1998: A study shows that losing the General Motors Lordstown assembly plant would suck $517 million in payroll a year from the local economy.
After sealing a $206 billion settlement with states that sued over the cost of providing health care to smokers, Phillip Morris and R.J. Reynolds, the nation's two largest tobacco companies, raised the price for a pack of cigarettes to $2.45.
Cleveland MetroParks will close two reservations in Brecksville and Bedford so that sharpshooters can kill up to 300 deer to thin the herds.
