COLUMBIANA COUNTY, Ohio - The results are in and Columbiana County reported a high voter turnout this year for the November general election with 50.16% of voters showing up to vote.

Despite the high turnout, this is still almost 5% lower than the county's turnout during last year's November election where the county reported 54.97% of voters showing up.

Out of over 200 provisional ballots added in Tuesday afternoon, 98 of them had to be thrown out for a variety of reasons.

Board of Elections Deputy Director Bryce Miner tells us 53 of these ballots came from those who were not registered to vote in Ohio, 27 came from those who voted in the incorrect precinct, 12 came from those with an invalid ID or no idea at all, three came from those with no signature and an additional three came from those whose ballots were missing from their envelopes.

When it comes to those who voted in the wrong precinct, Miner tells 21 News what likely happened was voters had changed their address to a different precinct, but went to their old polling location out of habit and poll workers simply failed to verify they were in the correct precinct.

Miner says the board will stress the importance of verifying that everyone is in the correct precinct in future training sessions.

Despite these ballots being tossed, the election results remained the same and those voters should now be registered in the right locations for the presidential primary election, which takes place March 19.
