Police warn residents about a phone scam claiming to be Mahoning Co. Sheriff's officers

The Youngstown Police Department is warning residents about a recent phone scam happening in the Valley
According to the Youngstown Police, the fraudulent phone calls are from an individual claiming to be Sgt Chad Zubal of the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department. The caller informs recipients that they have missed a court date and are required to pay a $3,000 fine to avoid arrest.
The police department is alerting the public to the fraudulent calls. The Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department does not make threats of arrest via a phone call for missed court appearances or levy fines in this manner.
The fraudulent callers have been using the phone number 330-558-1836.
Residents are strongly advised not to respond to these calls or provide any personal or financial information to the caller.
The police remind residents to never share personal information like social security numbers, bank account details, or payment information over the phone unless you are certain of the recipient’s identity.
