Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost will be paying Mahoning County Auditor Ralph Meacham a visit on Thursday to present a check for Second Harvest Food Bank.

The check will be presented to Meacham at the Lariccia Family Community Center at Boardman Park at 12:30 p.m.

This comes after Yost took Dollar General to court last November for allegedly advertising products for one price on the shelf, but selling them for a higher price at the register.

The state reached a $1 million settlement with Dollar General in October. As part of this agreement, $750,000 of the settlement money will be distributed to various food banks for the purchase and distribution of food and/or personal care items.

According to a press release, Meacham chose Second Harvest to receive the funds because as a provider to 161 partner agencies, they can stretch these dollars and make a difference for those in need in the Valley.

Every county will get $1,000 each and the remainder of the $750,000 will be distributed based on the number of Dollar General stores in each county. Yost says Mahoning County should get around $22,162.84.

Additionally, Trumbull County is getting $26,792.21 and Columbiana County is getting $14,226.77.

In addition to the money, the settlement also requires Dollar General to make various changes to avoid future pricing issues like this.

These changes include sufficient staff to keep shelf tags updated, adjusting the price to match the shelf tag and fixing the price tags no more than 24 hours after the price discrepancy is reported.

Additionally, district managers must conduct random price checks at stores every 45 days.
