A recall on cantaloupes has caused the CDC to issue a warning about eating the fruits.

A food safety alert from the CDC says to not eat pre-cut cantaloupes if you don't know whether Malichita or Rudy brand cantaloupes were used.

The alert comes after reports of a salmonella outbreak linked to the fruit. Since the investigation into the salmonella outbreak began, 117 people have reported illnesses, 61 people have been hospitalized and two people have died.

More than 30 states have confirmed a case related to the outbreak.

Several foods have been recalled, including:

Cantaloupes with stickers that say "Malichita" or "Rudy" with the lot number 4050 and "Product of Mexico"

  • Kwik Trip cantaloupe cups, mixed fruit cups and fruit trays with sell-by dates from November 4-December 3
  • Freshness Guaranteed and RaceTrac cantaloupe chunks, seasonal blend, melon mixes and fruit mixes with best-by dates from November 7-12
  • Kroger, Sprouts Farmers Market and Trader Joe's cantaloupe chunks, mixed melons, fruit medleys and fruit trays with best-by dates from October 28-November 8
  • Aldi whole cantaloupes, cantaloupe chunks and pineapple spears with best-by dates from October 27-31

If you've had any of the recalled products, contact your doctor if you have diarrhea and a fever of 102, signs of dehydration or bloody diarrhea.

If you have other products that may have been in contact, make sure to wash the items.
