Newly released documents obtained by 21 News reveal more information about the investigation into the murder of Leetonia High School teacher Michelle Long last Wednesday.

According to call records from the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Department, authorities were first notified of the crime through a phone call from a man who identified himself as Long’s boyfriend.

The 52-year-old Lisbon man reported finding the body of Long in her truck, which was found with the engine running and a door open at the end of the driveway of her Carey Road home in Butler Township.  Deputies say Long had been shot through the truck’s driver-side window.

During a subsequent search conducted by the Columbiana County Special Response Team, 72-year-old William Long was arrested for obstructing official business.  Long is the father of William Long Jr., who had been involved in divorce proceedings with the victim,

Sherriff Brian McLaughlin told 21 News there is a person of interest in the case. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification is reviewing a cell phone and other evidence collected from the crime scene.

As of Tuesday morning, no charges or arrests had been announced.

Services will be held for Michelle Long on Friday, December 8, 2023, 7 pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Calling hours are from 1 to 3 pm and from 5 to 7 pm on Friday at the church.
