Eastgate Regional Council requests $159M from Appalachian Community Grant Program

Funding opportunities could be coming to the valley for various projects throughout all three counties.
Today, the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments announced they applied for $159 million in funding from the Appalachian Community Grant Program (ACGP).
The council is calling this a "mega project" submission which will be made up of 43 projects across four counties including Ashtabula, Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
The goal of this submission is to create regional, transformative change for future economic and community development, according to Eastgate's ARC Program Manager Kathy Zook.
There are 18 projects in Mahoning county that could be funded through this application submission if approved. This includes appearance improvements in Youngstown, the Mahoning Valley Workforce Welcome Center for the Western Reserve Port Authority and a bike trail in Lowellville.
Trumbull could see funding for 10 projects, which includes funding for the revitalization of downtown Cortland and Niles, street improvements to downtown Girard and peninsula redevelopment in Warren.
Only one project is listed for Columbiana. This is the construction of the River Town Center for the Columbiana County Port Authority.
