A Howland man spent the night in jail after being arrested on a warrant issued by the prosecutor’s office as part of an investigation into sex crimes involving children.

Thirty-six-year-old Jeffrey Barton was taken into custody at his Englewood St. SE home on Thursday during a search conducted by township police and members of the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office.

Barton appeared Friday in Warren Municipal Court on two counts of using minors in nudity-oriented material, and two counts of having sexually oriented material involving minors.

Pleading "not guilty" to the charges, Barton is scheduled to appear in court again on Tuesday.

The judge banned Barton from using the internet and ordered him to turn over all internet devices, including his router and modem, to the Howland Police  Department.

According to a police report, the search was part of an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
