HOWLAND, Ohio - Students at Howland Junior High School gave back to veterans in the Valley on Monday.

The school presented a check worth $300 to the Veterans' Outreach facility on Colonial Drive in Youngstown.

On Veteran's Day, students with the Howland Junior High School student senate sold American flags during lunch, which were displayed outside of the school.

Each flag cost $5 and all proceeds went to veterans as a symbol of gratitude for their service.

"It's really great to have the youth step forward like that because so many people don't have an idea how important veterans are to this country and how we need to support them every day," said Veterans' Outreach Executive Director Tri Ely.

Howland high school students  also baked veterans cookies, as well as other treats that will be packaged up and sent to veterans' outreach on Tuesday.
