SALEM, Ohio - Two firefighters were injured after being dispatched to a residential fire on the city's north side.

One was treated on the scene for minor injuries, and the other was taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. 

The fire happened around 11 a.m. on the 1800 block of Shady Lane, according to a report from the Salem Fire Department.

According to a Facebook post made by the City of Salem Fire Department, off duty personal were called in to assist with the fire, and mutual aid departments were also called in to help. The Perry Township, Green Township, and Damascus Fire Departments assisted in putting the fire out.

Officials from the City of Salem Fire Department say the owners of the house were not home when the fire started.

Two dogs were killed by the fire, but firefighters were able to save two cats. The two cats were given oxygen by firefighters on the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
