Lordstown leaders mulling temporary moratorium on new trucking terminals

It's been said that if you got it, a truck brought it. But for Christine Sofia and many others in Lordstown, those trucks are bringing more and more problems.
"We have enough trucks here already," Sofia said outside Wednesday night's village council meeting. "Nobody's being pulled over for speeding, there's Jake Brakes going off constantly, our living rooms are rumbling, our windows are rumbling."
Problems that aren't lost on village leaders including councilman Bob Bond.
"We have a lot of trouble out here with trucks being on roads they shouldn't be," said Bond.
Which is why council is considering a temporary moratorium of up to a year on granting permits for any new trucking terminal.
The measure saw its second reading Wednesday night.
"Moratoriums are commonly used to look at zoning to see if it needs revised," Bond explained. "We have a limited amount of industrial land here. We want to make sure we get it developed in a way that's going to benefit the village and the region."
At the same time, the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments has rebranded the Lordstown Smart Logistics Hub as The LIVE Zone.
It's looking at things like automated freight projects.
But councilman Bond says that has nothing to do with the moratorium.
In the meantime, it's hard to say what the long-term fix could be.
Christine Sofia shared some of her ideas at Wednesday's meeting.
"Fines, enforcement, more signage, speed signs maybe, speed bumps maybe."
Perhaps a way to keep the wheels turning...but just a little more quietly.
