SOUTHINGTON TWP. - The Trumbull County Fire Investigation Unit has determined that a "faulty chimney" was the cause of a fire that forced residents to flee into the morning chill when their Southington home caught fire.

Dispatchers got a call just before 1 a.m. from a resident reporting smoke and popping noises in the living room of a home on the 3100 block of Williams St. NW.

The first firefighter to arrive saw flames in the front of the home and called in a second alarm, bringing help from other fire departments from Warren Township, Newton Falls, Mesopotamia, Bristolville, Parkman, and Middlefield.

No one was injured.
