Pennsylvania's updated Dog law measures are officially in effect.  The new measures for unlicensed dogs increases fines ranging from $100-$500 plus court fees.

Lawmakers said violators of already established dog laws, like abandoning a dog or not vaccinating a dog above the age of three months, can be fined up to $1000.

The new measures will also increase annual registration fees up to $1000 for owners of dogs deemed dangerous as well.

Humane officers believe these stiffer penalties will help curb dishonest breeding and safeguard dog health across the Commonwealth.

The laws now require kennels to disclose the medical and breeder history of canines and any known bite attacks on a person or other domestic animals.

Any dog that is imported into any kennels in the state must also be isolated for 14 days.

"I think it's a huge thing. That way we [can] make sure that you're not bringing in a pack of dogs that might have some kind of illness that you throw into your facility with other dogs and before you know it you have a facility full of sick animals." Humane Society of Mercer County humane officer, Paul Tobin said.
