An organization representing people impacted by the Norfolk Southern train derailment and chemical fire in East Palestine is inviting the community to take part in an event marking the anniversary of the night that changed many lives.

The Unity Council for EP Train Derailment is planning a "Together in Unity" event on Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at McKims Honeyvine and Winery, 735 East Taggart Street, East Palestine.

"We invite residents affected by the Norfolk Southern train derailment to commemorate the first anniversary of the event that forever tied us together in unity," according to a social media from the group.

The meeting is billed as "an evening of art, music, light refreshments, testimony, and a ritual of remembrance."

According to its Facebook page, the Unity Council represents residents of East Palestine and residents of outlying areas that were impacted by "the chemical bomb ignited over our village and miles beyond on February 3, 2023."

The Unity Council calls itself a community oversight board to ensure the right of the people to maintain clean air, water, and soil.
