Wellsville man settling lawsuit over arrest for 'F** the Police' sign
A Wellsville man who filed a lawsuit over his arrest for displaying a sign that read "F*** the Police" has settled his case.
According to court records, the docket for Steven Wright's lawsuit is marked "settled and dismissed without prejudice."
Records show that Wright and the officers listed as defendants have until March 1 to submit a Stipulation of Dismissal with Prejudice.
The civil suit was filed in U.S. District Court in Youngstown claiming the officers had violated his constitutional rights when they arrested him for displaying the sign.
In the complaint, Wright claimed he didn't receive any complaints from passers-by while holding the sign for three hours when officers showed up and told him to stop showing the sign or face a charge of disorderly conduct.
According to court documents, a police dispatcher and the mayor had received complaints about the language on the sign, including from people walking from a nearby church.
The lawsuit claimed Wright was handcuffed and jailed for six hours under a village ordinance.
Wright went before the Mayor's Court the following month where his disorderly conduct charge was dismissed.
