HOWLAND, Ohio - A sink hole that reduced traffic to one lane on a major roadway in Howland has been fixed as of late Monday morning.
According to the Howland Township Fire Department's Facebook page, traffic was be down to one lane on Niles Cortland Road NE and a temporary traffic light was set up.
ODOT District 4 Spokesperson Ray Marsch tells 21 News the sinkhole was caused by the extension off of the culvert eroding.
"Culvert is inspected every 10 years. This one was last inspected in 2021. The culvert itself was in fine shape, but it was the extension off the culvert that had eroded," Marsch said.
A steel plate will be in the roadway throughout the evening as crews work to pour concrete in the area.
