United Way raises record-breaking $3.7M through annual campaign
The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley has raised $3.7 million for its annual campaign supporting students and families in need.
The record-breaking total marks the 8th time the United Way has surpassed $3 million raised.
"These are the most dollars we've ever raised, over $3.7 million," Bob Hannon, United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley President, said. "What it says is the community trusts and believes in the United Way. We are so thankful for the dollars raised and those stay here."
The announcement was made to donors and administrators in a small ceremony at Austintown Fitch High School.
Funds raised by the United Way of Youngstown stay in the Mahoning Valley to fund initiatives like "Success Before Six" and "Success After Six" programs, as well as care closets in local schools.
"We're able to meet kids at their basic needs," Austintown Local Schools Superintendent Tim Kelty told 21 News. "Along with the United Way, we're just going to make that happen and keep making Austintown Schools a better place."
The United Way currently has 12 care closets across three school districts with hopes of expanding to other area schools this year.
