Youngstown & Boardman - An SUV carjacked in Youngstown and a car stolen from a Boardman gas station led to a high-speed chase for thirteen miles through both communities and ended with the arrest of two juveniles early Thursday.

According to Boardman Police, a man left his Honda Civic running and unlocked as he went inside the GetGo at Southern Blvd and Route 224 to order food around 1:30 a.m. That’s when the passenger got out of a Kia Sportage SUV and jumped into the Honda. Both vehicles left the parking lot heading east on Route 224.

As it turns out, the Kia had also been stolen from Youngstown earlier in the night.

According to a police report from the Youngstown Police Department, three juveniles were walking past a woman's home when one of them asked her for gas money around 12:30 a.m.

Police say the woman declined to give the young man any money, causing the juvenile to put a gun up to her head and demanded access to her vehicle. Police say the juvenile entered the vehicle and drove away.

According to the report, the woman's valuables including her purse, wallet, credit cards, money, her ID, and items for her grandchildren were in the vehicle at the time.

Police say some of those items have since been found in the roadway including a children's toy, a black purse, and a child's car seat.

Police spotted both the Kia and Honda vehicles driving north on South Avenue and began a pursuit.

Other Boardman police cruisers and Youngstown police joined the chase through Boardman neighborhoods and Youngstown’s South Side.

According to the police report, the two vehicles being chased drove at speeds averaging 80 miles per hour, approaching 100 miles per hour when the chase continued along I-680.

After exiting onto Salt Springs Road, the cars went in different directions, but the chase continued.

Two juveniles were captured after the Honda ran into a concrete barrier near Division Street.  Police say one of the suspects pointed a gun at an officer before being arrested.

The Kia SUV was found abandoned in a field off Donald Avenue on Youngstown’s West Side. No injuries were reported.
