Firefighters across the state line were called out early Tuesday to battle a house fire in Lawrence County.

The owner of a home on the 300 block of Evergreen Road in Mahoning Township told dispatchers that flames spread from the home's chimney and that some family pets may still be in the house.

The first firefighter to arrive reported that flames had spread throughout the home which is back in the woods, far off the road.

Fire departments from Mahoning, Union, Neshannock, and Pulaski Townships in Pennsylvania and firefighters from Poland and Lowellville were dispatched.

The State Fire Marshal has been called to help determine what caused the fire.
