YOUNGSTOWN - Owners estimate it will cost $3,500 to clean up graffiti scrawled on the outside of a historic building in Downtown Youngstown.

The writing was discovered last Wednesday morning on the exterior and a sign at the Wells Building at 201 W. Federal Street.

Security video shows two males using what appears to be a black marker on the building’s windows and tiles just before 3 a.m. on February 14.

The males can also be seen using their cell phones presumably to record their work, according to the police report.

Owners tell police that the damaged tiles will have to be replaced.

The Wells building, first constructed in 1917, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The Ohio Historic Preservation Office oversaw the restoration of the terra cotta-faced building, which now houses 5,000 square feet of office space on the first floor, and 12 luxury apartments.
