Bowling: Champion wants to come back "Champions" in state tournament

The Champion boys bowling team is in the state tournament this week in Columbus.
The Flashes are going after their second "bowling" state crown in 10 years. Their only other state championship came in 2014.
"Only 10 percent of the teams go to state so it's rewarding," said sixth year coach Josh Phelps.
"We have a lot of talent and were an energetic team, "said junior Garrett Martin who added, "we're just good."
The lone senior is Alan Derry who says the tournament comes down to one shot at a time. " We can't get upset if we mak
e a bad shot. We just know what we have to do."
Sophomore Derrick Campbell would like to follow his brother who was on that 2014 team. "It would be an honor to do that, it would be such an honor."
The Flashes are one of 16 teams in the tournament along with McDonald & United Local.
"Mindset is the key and if you get in a negative mindset you can easily start to fall apart, so if we keep out minds up & have a positive attitude and we'll be OK," said Martin.
The goal of the team was to make it to the Columbus tournament and now its just going and doing their thing.
"Relax, just execute and have fun, because our team is young and we'll probably be back next year," said Phelps.
Also competing is the Struthers girls team and Addison Rudibaugh of East Liverpool who qualified as an individual.
