Campbell man rushed to hospital hours after murder conviction

YOUNGSTOWN - The 47-year-old Campbell man was rushed to the hospital after spending only a few hours in the county jail late Wednesday after being convicted of murdering a Youngstown man.
Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene tells 21 News that deputies found John Morgan unresponsive in a jail holding cell Wednesday evening.
After administering chest compressions and several doses of the opioid reversal drug Narcan, Morgan regained consciousness and was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he remained on Thursday.
Greene says Morgan was free on bond until a jury delivered a verdict Wednesday afternoon, finding him guilty of murder, voluntary manslaughter, and felonious assault in connection with the shooting death of 46-year-old Daniel Peek at a home in Youngstown in 2022.
‘He shot and killed Peek in front of his son and will leave both of their families with a lifetime of sorrow," said Prosecutor Gina DeGenova in a written statement.
Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge Maureen Sweeney has set an April 4 sentencing hearing for Morgan.
