Jury deliberates case of Green Twp. man on trial for traffic crash that killed 81-year-old woman

Deliberations resume Thursday by a jury in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court considering the case of a Green Township man charged in connection with a deadly traffic accident.
The trial began Tuesday of 29-year-old Lowell Horst, 29, who is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular assault for the September 23, 2022 crash that claimed the life of 81-year-old Mary Coss of Massillon, Ohio.
According to a court document, Horst told a State Trooper he was watching sports highlights on his phone, stating it was a distraction leading up to the head-on crash between his pickup truck and an SUV along Route 172 near Zepernick Lake.
Troopers say Horst's truck went left of center, running into Coss's SUV.
Horst, his employer, and his insurance company are all named in a negligence lawsuit filed by the Coss estate. The suit, seeking more than $25,000 in damages, is scheduled to go to trial this coming fall.
