Police suspect a WRTA bus driver to have been under the influence of alcohol during a crash in Austintown Tuesday afternoon.

According to a police report from Austintown PD, police were dispatched to Marcia Drive near Mahoning Avenue shortly before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a crash involving a WRTA bus and Chevy Silverado.

Police say the owner of the Chevy was not in the vehicle when it was struck.

Officers spoke to the driver of the bus who admitted to her involvement in the crash according to police. When police asked if she consumed any alcohol, police say she denied this and told officers she had only drank green tea that day.

Police searched the bus and found no alcohol or drugs in it.

According to the report, officers then spoke to the owner of a Dodge Caliber who wanted to report a hit skip after noticing his vehicle on Inglewood Avenue had been sideswiped.

Police say Ring doorbell camera footage from the Dodge owner captured images of a WRTA bus with driver's side damage backing away from the vehicle.

Police say they soon found out that the driver tested positive for alcohol on her breath twice at the hospital with a .114 and .116 BAC respectively. The police report does not list any charges filed at this time.

21 News reached out to WRTA Director Dean Harris who told us the driver is currently on unpaid leave as the wait on the results of the police investigation.
